Block out tooth decay
There are a number of factors which may contribute to the development of cavities, including poor oral hygiene, diet and nutrition, genetics and other dental problems. If your teeth are prone to tooth decay, our dentist may recommend a dental sealant to help protect your smile.
Dental sealants are a type of preventive treatment designed to protect your teeth from cavities and decay. Sealants are made of clear or tooth-colored resin, and are painted onto the surfaces of your teeth to form a smooth surface over the pits and grooves in the chewing surfaces of the tooth. This blocks out bacteria and food debris, and makes it easier for your to keep your teeth clean with regular brushing and flossing.
Sealants are usually provided for children, and are typically applied to the permanent molars as soon as they come in (these teeth generally erupt between ages six and twelve). However, Dr. Tim will provide dental sealants for adults if their teeth are prone to decay or have experienced significant problems with tooth decay in the past.
Your dental sealants can be applied in a few minutes as part of your regular dental appointments. This treatment is entirely non-invasive and very comfortable.
