Your crowning glory – strengthening, restoring and protecting your teethÂ
Our dentist provides dental crowns to restore your smile and protect and strengthen your teeth after they have been damaged. Crowns may be provided for both restorative and cosmetic reasons, such as:
- To restore and protect teeth damaged by decay, cracking, fractures or other trauma
- To complete a dental implant
- To anchor a dental bridge
- To support a large dental filling
- To improve the appearance of irregularly shaped teeth
At the office of Timothy Rothwell, we use porcelain to create your dental crowns. We have chosen to use porcelain because it mimics the appearance, translucency and strength of your original tooth enamel. In some cases, we may use a metal base to provide additional strength. Your crown will be custom-made to match your remaining teeth and provide a beautiful and lasting restoration.
Plan on scheduling two appointments with our dentist when you receive a dental crown. During the first appointment we will prepare your tooth to receive the crown by removing any damaged or decayed tooth structure and cleaning the tooth. We will then take an impression, which will be sent to the dental lab where your crown will be made. We will also fit you with a temporary crown to protect the tooth during this period.
During your second appointment your crown will be placed over your tooth and checked to ensure that it fits correctly. Our dentist will then bond the crown into place to create a functional, beautiful and long-lasting restoration.
