Treating the root of the problem
Root canal treatment is a type of endodontic therapy recommended when the tooth pulp and nerves are infected, decayed or damaged. This typically occurs when a tooth is severely cracked or injured, or when decay reaches beyond the outer layer of enamel and deep into the tooth.
Our skilled dentist may recommend a root canal in order to preserve the vitality of your tooth and restore its health and function. Root canal therapy is often the only alternative to tooth extraction, and many dentists prefer to perform a root canal over an extraction in order to keep your natural tooth in your mouth and functioning properly.
When you receive a root canal, our Dr. Tim will first remove the infected and injured tissues. He will then clean the tooth and fill it with a medicated material. You will then be provided with a temporary crown to protect the treated tooth while your final restoration is made. Once your crown has been completed, you will return to our office to have it bonded in place and fully restore your tooth. While waiting for your dental crown may necessitate a second appointment, the root canal procedure itself can usually be completed in one or two appointments.
Root canal therapy has developed a reputation of being painful and deeply uncomfortable. However, thanks to advances in anesthesia and sedation dentistry, treatment techniques and dental technology, our team can perform your procedure with greater efficient and comfort so that you experience is easier and less uncomfortable.
